About Proposition 65

The California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, commonly referred to as California Proposition 65, requires manufacturers to provide customers with notification about chemicals in the products they purchase. LA Metal Fab complies with this requirement by providing the following information in regards to its fabricated metal products.

Products manufactured by LA Metal Fab can expose you to chemicals listed under Proposition 65. These chemicals may be present in the metal alloys, surface treatments, and coatings used in our fabrication processes.

Chemicals and Exposure Routes

The following chemicals associated with our products and materials may be present and are listed under Proposition 65:

  • Lead and lead compounds — may be present in some metal alloys and surface coatings; known to cause cancer and reproductive harm
  • Hexavalent chromium (Cr VI) — may be present on stainless steel and certain plated surfaces; known to cause cancer
  • Nickel and nickel compounds — present in stainless steel and certain alloys; known to cause cancer
  • Cadmium and cadmium compounds — may be present in some plated or coated materials; known to cause cancer and reproductive harm
  • Titanium dioxide (airborne, unbound particles) — may be present from powder coating; known to cause cancer when inhaled as fine particles

Customer Safety

Physical Handling Hazards

Sharp Edges and Burrs

Fabricated metal parts, sheet metal components, and raw stock may have sharp edges, burrs, or points that can cause cuts or puncture wounds. LA Metal Fab performs deburring and edge smoothing where specified by the customer, but all received parts should be handled with care.

  • Always wear cut-resistant gloves when handling sheet metal components
  • Inspect parts for sharp edges, tabs, or burrs before handling
  • Do not run fingers along cut edges or laser-cut openings without inspection
Heavy Parts and Assemblies

Metal fabricated assemblies, structural components, and production-run parts can be heavy and awkward to handle. To prevent strain or injury:

  • Use appropriate mechanical lifting equipment for heavy components
  • Ensure adequate personnel when manually moving large assemblies
  • Store parts on stable, level surfaces to prevent tipping or rolling
  • Secure parts during transport to prevent shifting or uncontrolled movement
Powder Coated and Surface-Finished Parts

Cured powder coated surfaces are chemically stable under normal use conditions. However, if secondary operations such as drilling, grinding, or cutting are performed on powder coated parts:

  • Perform work in a well-ventilated area
  • Wear appropriate respiratory protection (N95 or higher) to avoid inhaling fine particles
  • Wear eye protection against airborne particulate
  • Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after completing work
